PASS IT ON!
Pass it On is the Playing for Success (PFS) 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games national legacy programme. In the run up to the Games, Pass it On aims to engage all PFS centres in activities around the Games through a national competition and a resource exchange across regions. This is a unique opportunity for PFS centres to use the Olympics and Paralympics as a key resource to raise standards.
Competitions
The series of national competitions, launched at the PFS conference in May, follows the focus areas of literacy in
Year 1, numeracy in Year 2 and ICT in Year 3, starting with the task ‘Create a poem inspired by the Olympic and Paralympics Games’. Each year students will be invited to submit entries to their PFS centre where regional judging will take place before national finalists are announced atthe PFS conference. Have a look online at pfspassiton.org.uk to vote for your favourite poem.
The Olympics
Walking out to the track from the dark tunnel,
Feeling great,
Representing my country
Bending down to the starting position
BANG! And the race has begun
Who knows my luck or fate?
Sweat is dripping off me
The crowd are tense in their seats
I can strongly smell hot dogs,
My heart is racing.
The wind brutally pulling at my shirt,
I dive over the finish line...
Only to come 2nd
I stagger towards the wall disappointed
Wait!
Hold on!
What me!
1st
YESSSS!
No less...

Values Relay
Throughout the regions a relay of resources will take place, each resource or ‘baton’, representing an Olympics and Paralympics Value together with Olympic and Paralympics Heroes’ themes; these provide a resource for the competitions and other work that will develop as an online sharing network of ideas and good practice.
Bluebirds Footy Book
Bluebirds Study Centre worked with children from Thorncliffe School and Artist John Hall to initiate the work on supporter’s memories from Barrow AFC. The children worked with John on a creative art project linked to the idea and successfully acquired a Heritage Lottery Grant to produce a book of publishable quality to record supporter’s memories.
The youngsters launched the idea and gathered information and images. They interviewed supporter’s young and old and planned the content of the book. Groups of children from the Playing for Success sessions contributed their special memories of the launch of the Pass it On initiative to link into the 2012 Olympics. The result is a comprehensive collection of personal recollections from across the Barrow contributors, placing the club firmly at the centre of the community.
The book will be on sale in December 2010.
