Playing for Success Mentors

The Bluebirds Study Centre is looking to recruit volunteers to work as Playing for Success Mentors. The role of the Mentor is to support and to encourage children in their learning. Playing for Success is a new and exciting scheme which enables children to develop skills in Literacy, Numeracy and I.C.T. through football related activities. Mentors do not have to be computer boffins, spelling geniuses or mathematical experts but be people who have a genuine interest in working with children and in helping them to succeed.

The Bluebirds Study Centre is based at Holker Street Stadium. The children who attend the Centre are aged between 9 and 14. The scheme runs from Monday to Thursday and offers two sessions each day from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mentors are asked to work at one of these sessions giving two hours a week over a ten week period.

Members of the public interested in becoming Mentors are asked to participate in a Playing for Success Mentoring course which will provide full training. The course consists of two evening sessions and is run by the Centre staff in partnership with Mentoring and Befriending North West. The course will offer the opportunity to gain a qualification which is accredited through TRCON (National Open College Network).

This would be an ideal opportunity for someone interested in a starting a career in working with children. All Mentors must be over 16 and as they are working with children must be willing to have a Criminal Record Bureau check.

Anyone interested in becoming a Playing for Success Mentor is invited to contact the Centre on:
